Downscaling maps many source pixels onto fewer destination pixels, and how you interpolate decides whether the result looks clean or mushy. This tool halves repeatedly before the final step, which keeps detail far better than a single giant jump, then re-encodes once. PNG output is lossless at any dimension; WebP and JPG output add a quality setting when you also want a smaller file.
Stepped downscaling
Going from 4000 pixels to 500 in one draw call produces smudged text. Halving to 500 through four steps preserves strokes and edges, which matters most on screenshots and diagrams.
Aspect ratio stays honest
Width mode computes height from each image's own ratio. A 3:4 photo and a 16:9 screenshot given the same target width keep their own proportions.
