What combining PNG files actually does
Combining PNG files means drawing two or more images onto a single canvas and saving it as one file. The PNG combiner decodes each input, places it at its native resolution, and encodes the canvas once. Because PNG is lossless, none of the inputs lose quality on the way in — the pixels you put in are the pixels that come out.

Transparency survives the combine
PNG alpha channels pass through untouched. Transparent areas in your inputs stay transparent in the combined output, as long as the background setting stays on Transparent.
